Dominik Kohr Faces Potential Four Match Ban Following Disciplinary HearingDominik Kohr Faces Potential Four Match Ban Following Disciplinary Hearing

Mainz defender Dominik Kohr’s recent sending off poses serious ramifications for the 31-year-old athlete. According to Kicker, the German Football Association (DFB) is contemplating a suspension of up to four matches for the player, who holds the record for the most send-offs in Bundesliga history. If the maximum penalty is applied, Kohr’s 2025 calendar year could effectively conclude prematurely.

In response to his reckless challenge on Hoffenheim attacker Max Moerstedt, Kohr has issued a public apology via social media. However, this gesture may be perceived as insufficient by the DFB’s disciplinary committee, which has grown increasingly frustrated with Kohr’s repeated infractions. A final decision on the suspension is expected today.

Despite Kohr’s apology and the support of his teammates, who argue that he is unfairly labeled as the “Bundesliga Bully,” it is unlikely that these sentiments will influence the DFB’s ruling. The Trier native’s pattern of reckless play demands accountability, and statements from both Kohr and teammates like Danny da Costa are unlikely to mitigate the situation.

“You keep reading articles in which he is described as the ‘bully of the league’,” Da Costa stated during an interview with Sky Germany on Friday evening. “I’ve known and played with him long enough to assert that this is not a fair characterization. He has an aggressive playing style, but many other players also occasionally cross the line. The tackle on Moerstedt was not intentional.”

Kohr addressed the issue directly on his Instagram account, stating, “It’s important for me to speak directly to you today, especially you, Max Moerstedt. My intention was solely to intercept a pass. Upon viewing the footage, I was shocked. It could have resulted in a much worse outcome. I am relieved and thankful that you are well and able to continue playing.

Additionally, Kohr expressed his regret to Mainz supporters, asserting, “I always strive to give my all for you. While I am committed to making every tackle, I want to reassure you that I never intend to injure anyone intentionally.”
