Dominik Kohr Faces Potential Suspension Following Controversial Red CardDominik Kohr Faces Potential Suspension Following Controversial Red Card

Mainz defender Dominik Kohr is facing serious repercussions following his recent red card, which could lead to a suspension of up to four matches. This potential ban is being considered by the German Football Association (DFB), particularly due to Kohr’s notorious history as the Bundesliga record holder for the most send-offs in league history. If the maximum penalty is enforced, Kohr’s participation for the remainder of the 2025 calendar year could be significantly impacted.

In an effort to address the situation, Kohr publicly apologized via social media for his dangerous tackle on Hoffenheim’s Max Moerstedt. However, this gesture might be perceived as insufficient by the DFB’s disciplinary committee, which has expressed frustration with Kohr’s ongoing patterns of reckless behavior. A final decision regarding his penalty is anticipated soon.

Despite Kohr’s apologies and the support from teammates who defend his character, the DFB is unlikely to be swayed by such statements. Many believe that Kohr’s repeated reckless challenges necessitate more stringent action. Teammate Danny da Costa articulated this sentiment, stating, “You keep reading articles in which he is described as the ‘bully of the league.’ I’ve known and played with him long enough to say that this is not fair to him. He has an aggressive playing style, but there are many other players who occasionally go too far. The tackle on Moerstedt was not intentional.”

In his Instagram post, Kohr addressed Moerstedt directly, stating, “In my mind, I just wanted to prevent a pass. When I saw the TV images, I was shocked myself. It could have turned out differently. I’m relieved and glad that nothing more happened to you and that you were able to continue playing.”

He further expressed his regret towards the Mainz fans, saying, “I want to throw myself into every tackle for you, but I want to reassure you once again that I never want to hurt anyone on purpose.”
