omidbasir- Dorgu has recently faced scrutiny regarding his suitability for English football after struggling to leave a mark since his £25 million ($34 million) transfer from Lecce in February 2025. However, a year later, the versatile 21-year-old is beginning to fulfill expectations.

One of the key challenges for Dorgu was his acquisition under former Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim, who intended to utilize him in a wing-back role. This position often limited his ability to fully express his talents at both ends of the pitch, restricting his offensive contributions while hindering his defensive performance as well.

With Amorim’s departure and Michael Carrick taking over as interim manager, Dorgu is finally being given the chance to excel as a dynamic winger. In his last seven Premier League matches, he has made a significant impact, scoring three goals and providing two assists. Notably, he found the net in a crucial derby against Manchester City, contributing to a 2-0 victory, and scored again in a thrilling 3-2 win at Arsenal.

His spectacular goal at the Emirates Stadium was a stunning strike that crashed in off the underside of the crossbar, leaving Gunners goalkeeper David Raya with no chance. This remarkable achievement caught the attention of former United left-back Patrice Evra, who shared his excitement on social media with a video celebrating Dorgu’s goal. Dorgu responded by referencing Evra’s own memorable Champions League goal against Bayern Munich in 2014.

Dorgu’s recent performances have drawn comparisons to former Tottenham and Real Madrid star Gareth Bale, particularly regarding his evolution from a speedy left-back to a goal-scoring forward. Ex-Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara commented on social media, noting that Dorgu’s playstyle reminds him of Bale’s early days at Spurs.

Although Dorgu was unable to complete the full 90 minutes in his outstanding appearance against Arsenal due to fitness concerns, Carrick has downplayed the seriousness of the situation. He praised Dorgu’s contributions in both attacking and defensive roles, stating, “Pat has been a big player for us over the last couple of games. His athleticism, quality, and connections have been crucial.”

Carrick expressed his delight for Dorgu, highlighting that the two goals he scored were distinct yet reflective of his performance intensity. He confirmed that Dorgu’s exit from the match was likely due to cramps rather than a serious injury, indicating that the player’s effort had been commendable.

With a week to recover before United’s next match against Fulham on Sunday, Dorgu will look to build upon his recent successes as the team climbs into the Premier League’s top four.
