According to reports from Sky Germany, Borussia Dortmund scouts were present at Feyenoord’s Europa League match against Stuttgart to monitor the performance of 24-year-old midfielder Quinten Timber closely. Timber’s impressive form has attracted attention from several top clubs, while Feyenoord is engaged in discussions to extend his contract beyond 2026. Following a tumultuous transfer window, Dortmund is eager to capture the Dutch midfielder’s interest.

The Bundesliga club faced challenges in securing key targets this summer, having missed out on Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri and Brighton’s Facundo Buonanotte, who is currently on loan at Chelsea. Additionally, Dortmund aimed to acquire Manchester City’s Claudio Echeverri on loan with an option to buy, but Bayer Leverkusen successfully finalized a straight loan arrangement.

Dortmund is not alone in pursuing Timber, as Premier League club West Ham United has rekindled its interest following approval from manager Nuno Espirito Santo. Nuno had previously sought to sign Timber during his tenure at Nottingham Forest and continues to hold the midfielder in high regard.

Despite the ongoing transfer speculation, Timber remains a pivotal player for Feyenoord. He relinquished the captaincy this summer to Sem Steijn, a decision explained by Robin van Persie as being related to the midfielder’s ongoing contract negotiations. Nonetheless, Timber has been a mainstay in the starting lineup, making 14 appearances this season, during which he has scored two goals and provided one assist.

In a recent statement, Timber’s twin brother, Jurrien, who plays for Arsenal, expressed that another year at Feyenoord could be beneficial for his brother. However, Feyenoord faces pressure to secure Timber’s future, as failing to extend his contract could allow him to leave for free after another season. The club has already rejected a bid from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, amidst growing interest in the player.

“There was very serious interest in him,” stated club CEO Dennis te Kloese in September. “It didn’t happen, but not due to a lack of willingness on our part. Now, the question remains whether we’ll extend the contract or not. We have time for discussions, and our communication with him remains strong. He is very professional and focused.”

Despite Timber’s strong individual performances, Feyenoord’s season has been inconsistent, currently sitting second in the Eredivisie with nine wins from 12 games, trailing leaders PSV. However, their Europa League campaign has been lackluster, with only one win from four matches, placing them in the lower half of their group. With Van Persie advocating for his midfield star and major clubs closely monitoring him, Timber could soon be on the move from De Kuip, and Dortmund is hopeful for a successful outcome this time around.
