Elche Draws with Sevilla Despite Febas Stellar PerformanceElche Draws with Sevilla Despite Febas Stellar Performance

Elche FC came close to resuming their winning streak, only to let slip a victory against Sevilla, ending the match in a 2-2 draw after leading 2-0 late in the game. The lost points spoiled what could have been a memorable night for Aleix Febas, the standout midfielder who has become one of LaLiga EA Sports’ revelations this season. He celebrated his 100th appearance for the club with a goal to open the scoring, alongside chants from the fans urging him to renew his contract. However, Sevilla’s Akor Adams, with a brace, dashed hopes of a euphoric finish.

Before the match commenced, the general director of Elche, Pedro Schinocca, presented Febas with a commemorative jersey honoring his milestone. This achievement was reached just days prior during a Copa del Rey match against Betis. Celebrating the occasion with his wife and daughter, Febas was met with fan chants of “Febas, stay with us,” fully aware that his contract will expire at the end of the current season, allowing him to negotiate with other clubs.

The chant echoed again just 13 minutes later when Aleix Febas scored the opening goal with a right-footed shot that grazed the post of Vlachodimos’ goal. During the goal celebration, the call for him to remain with the club resonated once more, marking his second goal of the season. Beyond his scoring contributions, the Catalan displayed noteworthy performance as a versatile midfielder, solidifying his role as a leader within Eder Sarabia’s Elche team.

However, with Febas off the pitch, the franjiverdes faced a disappointing equalizer from Sevilla. Two goals conceded, the last coming from a penalty in stoppage time due to a handball, left Elche yearning for a victory that could have significantly bolstered their quest for survival. This draw extended their winless streak to three matches, accumulating only two points from the last nine available.

Despite this, Elche remains in a comfortable position in the standings, currently sitting eighth with 24 points, equal to Real Sociedad, Athletic, and Girona, and holding a five-point cushion above the relegation zone. Their next match will be against Levante, scheduled for Friday at 21:00 in Valencia.
