Elche’s Pursuit of Marco Moreno: Eibar’s Stance on Key Defender

Marco Moreno emerged as a prominent name during the final stretch of the winter transfer market. The central defender from Eibar gained significant attention from Elche, particularly after Diaby’s transfer to Granada. This move compelled the Illicitano club to explore the market for defensive reinforcements.

Elche’s interest was both genuine and substantial. They presented an offer close to Moreno’s release clause of two million euros, along with a proposal allowing Eibar to retain a percentage of any future sale. However, the Eibar management stood resolute in their decision. Marco Moreno is deemed a crucial element in their project, and his departure would have jeopardized the team’s defensive stability for the remainder of the season.

Eibar’s management believes that Moreno is a pillar of the team and they were unwilling to compromise such a critical area of their lineup mid-season. Consequently, despite Elche’s financial proposal and their efforts in the closing days of the transfer window, the transfer did not materialize.

“Marco is an important player; he was a strategic signing for the club in the summer, and right now, the club’s interests are paramount. Losing a player of his caliber would have been detrimental to us,” remarked César Palacios, Eibar’s sporting director, regarding the Canary Islands defender.

Nevertheless, Marco Moreno remains on Elche’s radar. The defender is highly regarded by Sarabia, and Elche plans to make another attempt to secure his services next summer when circumstances may be more advantageous for all parties involved.
