Her recovery was complicated by a previously undetected issue with the surgical graft, which caused ongoing discomfort and led to “dark” days during her rehabilitation. She made her long-awaited return to Chelsea in September of last year, coming off the bench against Aston Villa and scoring her 100th goal for the club shortly thereafter. In addition to injury challenges, Kerr faced a legal battle stemming from a January 2023 incident in London involving a dispute with a taxi driver and a subsequent altercation with a police officer. Kerr maintained that her actions were not intended to insult or harm anyone, but were a result of poor expression during a traumatic evening. She argued that the police treated her differently due to their “power and privilege.” In February, a jury at Kingston Crown Court found her not guilty of racially aggravated intentional disorderly conduct following a week-long trial.
