Emre Can Reflects on Injury Struggles and Return to BundesligaEmre Can Reflects on Injury Struggles and Return to Bundesliga

Almost six months elapsed between Emre Can’s last appearance against Hoffenheim in April and his return to the Bundesliga on Matchday 10 against Hamburg, where Borussia Dortmund secured a 1-1 draw.

The 31-year-old midfielder had been recovering from an adductor injury, a situation that began following their 4-0 defeat to Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.

“That’s when my problems started,” Can shared with the club’s media team. “The coach was aware of my situation – I hardly trained or participated in matches, spending most of my time on the bench. Playing a full 90 minutes was out of the question. The coach asked if I could endure it.”

Reflecting on his challenging recovery, Can remarked, “I experienced several setbacks during my rehabilitation. I would progress significantly, only to feel the pain again and have to restart my recovery process. It was disheartening to return to the same stage repeatedly.”

Looking back over the past months, Can stated, “It was not a pleasant experience, to say the least. Maintaining mental strength was crucial, especially through the challenges I faced during rehab. Despite the difficulties, I managed to remain positive throughout the ordeal.”
