Endrick’s Strategic Loan to Lyon: Aiming for Growth and Opportunity

In his inaugural season with Los Blancos, he made 37 appearances across all competitions, including 22 in La Liga, scoring seven goals. However, his playing time has significantly diminished this season under manager Alonso. After recovering from a hamstring injury that kept him sidelined for several months, Endrick has featured only three times across all competitions, accumulating just over 100 minutes in La Liga and the Champions League, without finding the net.

The intense competition for positions alongside star forwards Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. has limited his opportunities, with the manager often opting for Gonzalo Garcia as a backup striker. Consequently, this lack of involvement has led to visible frustration for the young talent, prompting him to pursue a loan move to further his development, a decision that has the manager’s full support.

Speaking to reporters, Alonso stated: “At this stage of his career, after transitioning from Brazil to Europe, Endrick needs playing time. I understand his decision and why the club aims to invest in his growth within a competitive league like the French one, where he will receive more minutes. If this nurtures his development as a player, it’s a positive step. Real Madrid has a history of allowing players to develop at other clubs before they excel in the first team. We have confidence in him, and we’ll be closely monitoring his progress.”

Alonso further emphasized the importance of looking at the medium-term future: “The decision has been made, and we must focus on the players we have for the upcoming Super Cup with great confidence.”

Endrick, who has earned 14 caps and scored three goals for the senior Brazil national team, has recently voiced concerns about possibly missing out on the 2026 World Cup due to limited playing time at Real Madrid. In an interview with Brazilian legend Romario, the 19-year-old expressed: “To be honest, I fear not being part of the World Cup. It’s challenging to be at the biggest club in the world with the best players and not have the opportunity to consistently play. My hope is to represent the national team next year and, God willing, win the World Cup.”

His loan to Lyon, where he is expected to play a significant role, is intended to be a crucial yet temporary chapter in his career. He has reportedly assured everyone at Real Madrid of his intention to return and succeed at the club, viewing his journey in Spain as far from over.

Since joining Lyon, Endrick has already made an off-field impact, shattering the club’s social media records with his announcement video. Coach Paulo Fonseca confirmed that the new signing is adapting well in training and is highly motivated. Although his debut was postponed due to a registration issue, he is expected to make his first appearance against Lille in the French Cup on January 11.

Fonseca remarked: “He’s doing very well. He started training this week, and his adaptation is progressing smoothly. He is a player we need, and his uniqueness adds value to the team. The entire group has welcomed him. I spoke with him, and he seems satisfied to be here.
