England achieved remarkable success by winning the European Championship in both 2022 and 2025.

The Lionesses are set to host Iceland in a Women’s World Cup qualifier on March 7 at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground. This match marks the team’s inaugural home qualifier for the upcoming 2027 tournament, which will take place in Brazil.

Prior to this, England’s first qualifier will be an away match against Ukraine on March 3, with the venue yet to be confirmed.

“We are at the beginning of an important qualifying campaign,” stated England head coach Sarina Wiegman. “We aim to perform at our best and are genuinely excited to commence this journey. Iceland presents a well-organized and competitive challenge, making this an excellent test as we progress toward the World Cup.”

England is placed in Group A3, which includes Iceland, Ukraine, and Spain. The group winner will automatically qualify for the tournament, while the teams finishing second and third will enter playoffs for a chance to secure a World Cup spot.

The Lionesses are determined to qualify and aspire to advance beyond their performance in the 2023 competition, where they reached the final but were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Spain.

Notably, England has since added to their accolades by successfully defending their European Championship title in 2025, triumphing over Spain in a penalty shootout in the final.
