Enhanced Security Measures for the Sevilla vs. Betis DerbyEnhanced Security Measures for the Sevilla vs. Betis Derby

On Wednesday, Francisco Toscano, the Government Subdelegate in Seville, chaired a security meeting ahead of the much-anticipated derby match between Sevilla and Betis, scheduled for this Sunday at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium. A robust security plan has been developed, commencing its preliminary phase on Saturday and remaining in effect until several hours after the match concludes.

According to a statement from the Subdelegation, this operation will deploy 396 members of the National Police, who will work in collaboration with local police, firefighters, Civil Protection, the Red Cross, Emergency Services 061, and the municipal cleaning service of Seville.

Participants in the security meeting included representatives from the National Police, both football clubs, the Assigned Police, and local law enforcement, along with officials from the ambulance services affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Consumption.

Toscano emphasized that the operation is designed to create a safe environment before, during, and after the match, particularly in sensitive areas such as Nervión and the hotels hosting the teams. He highlighted that the National Police would maintain enhanced surveillance prior to the event to preempt any movements from radical groups.

The security service, set to activate on Saturday during its Pre-Critical Phase, will include units such as the Citizen Attention and Prevention and Reaction (UPR) units from the Provincial Brigade of Citizen Security, along with personnel from the Provincial Information Brigade and others.

On Sunday, the Critical Phase will commence before the match, during which the IV Unit of Police Intervention (UIP) will provide protection around the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium, supported by the Cavalry Unit, especially in areas where fans congregate.

This operation will be complemented by security measures at the hotels accommodating both teams and the referees, ensuring safety during their transfers to the stadium.

Once the match begins, the UIP will monitor both the interior and exterior of the stadium, assisted by the Cavalry Unit in the surrounding areas and overseeing private security personnel. After the match concludes, the officers will remain in the vicinity to prevent any potential disturbances.
