Enzo Maresca s Tenure at Chelsea A Review of Achievements and ChallengesEnzo Maresca s Tenure at Chelsea A Review of Achievements and Challenges

Enzo Maresca held the position of head coach for Chelsea’s men’s first team from July 2024 until his departure on January 1, 2026.

Maresca’s exit was precipitated by the team’s poor performance, having secured only one Premier League victory in December 2025. Their only other win during that month came in the League Cup quarter-final against Cardiff City.

Chelsea’s win percentage in the Premier League for the current season stands at 42%, with eight victories out of 19 matches played thus far.

Throughout Maresca’s tenure, which encompassed a total of 92 matches, the team won 55 and drew 16, resulting in an impressive win percentage of 59.8%. This marked the highest win rate since Thomas Tuchel’s management during the 2021-2022 season.

Under Maresca’s leadership, Chelsea finished fourth in the league in his inaugural season, their best league position since the 2021-2022 season when they placed third. Additionally, the club secured the Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup titles in 2025.

However, it was not solely the results that contributed to the mounting pressure on Maresca. Reports of disagreements between him and the club’s hierarchy also surfaced.

His final match in charge ended in a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on December 30, 2025.

Maresca succeeded Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, who managed Chelsea from July 2023 to May 2024. Pochettino achieved a win rate of 51%, winning 26 out of 51 matches before departing by mutual consent at the close of the 2023-2024 season.

Former player Frank Lampard had a brief stint as caretaker manager between April and June 2023, during which he oversaw one win and two draws in 11 games, resulting in a win rate of 47.4%. Graham Potter led Chelsea from September 2022 to April 2023, achieving 12 victories in 31 matches, which translates to a win rate of 38%.

During Thomas Tuchel’s tenure, from January 2021 to September 2022, Chelsea recorded 60 wins out of 100 matches, suffering only 16 defeats.
