omidbasir- Erik Pieters has not ruled out a return to the Eredivisie. The 37-year-old defender has not participated in an official match since May 2025, yet he is not considering retirement from football at this stage.

In a recent appearance on ESPN’s program De Voetbalkantine, Pieters expressed that he does not currently identify as an active football player, using the term “unfortunately” to describe his situation. “However, my heart, physical condition, and mental state are still very much aligned with the game,” he explained. The seasoned player remarked on the evolving nature of football, stating, “Unfortunately, the football world has changed a bit. Experience counts for less than it used to; it has become more business-oriented.”

Reflecting on the potential impact of a player like Raheem Sterling at Feyenoord, Pieters noted, “This would certainly be a significant acquisition for Feyenoord.” Having faced Sterling numerous times on the pitch, Pieters remarked, “I have certainly seen his back quite often.”

As Pieters navigates this transitional phase, his passion for football remains evident, leaving the door open for a potential return to the field.
