Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe has expressed concerns regarding Alejandro Garnacho’s decision-making abilities. While acknowledging the young Argentine’s technical prowess, athleticism, and capacity to entertain, Sharpe emphasizes that significant improvement is necessary for Garnacho to evolve into a more well-rounded player. In his remarks to Adventure Gamers, Sharpe stated: “The recurring issue with Alejandro Garnacho is his decision-making in the final third. His skills, pace, and ability to excite are exceptional; however, he often mishandles situations by attempting to shoot when he should pass, and vice versa. He can become ensnared in tight spaces, and his performance may not align with the expectations of a prestigious club like Manchester United or Chelsea. While it is possible that he may improve with age and experience, it is concerning that after several years in the Premier League, he has not made noticeable strides in these areas.” Once regarded as one of Argentina’s most promising talents, Garnacho has not been called up to the national team for nearly a year. Former Argentine international Oscar Ruggeri believes the young player needs a reality check. Ruggeri commented: “He is not superior to anyone else; he should enjoy being a football player without letting pride overwhelm him. Missing the opportunity for growth is unfortunate. He needs to be grounded. If he recalibrates his attitude, he could easily earn another call-up to the national team because he is truly phenomenal on the pitch.” Paul Parker, a former defender for United, also criticized Garnacho’s professionalism, particularly regarding his departure from the club. He added: “His conduct, both on and off the pitch, was disrespectful. His sole focus seemed to be scoring goals or having near misses to emulate Ronaldo. Now, he finds himself at a club with a stronger ego presence, which could either lead to his alienation or an ongoing struggle. United fans supported him during his challenges, yet he did not reciprocate their loyalty, effectively dismissing the club that nurtured him.” This season, Garnacho has faced significant scrutiny from pundits for his behavior. However, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca remains optimistic about the young winger’s potential. Following Garnacho’s performance in the Blues’ 2-2 draw with Qarabag in the Champions League, Maresca remarked: “I understand the frustration when results don’t go your way, but I believe Garnacho performed well in the second half. We have provided him the opportunity, and he is gradually improving.” With Garnacho not facing the pressure of national team duties this month, he will aim to secure a starting position for Chelsea in their upcoming match against Premier League bottom-dwellers Wolverhampton Wanderers. A favorable outcome could see Chelsea climb into the top four by the end of the weekend.
