Everton s Late Equalizer Secures a Point Against BrightonEverton s Late Equalizer Secures a Point Against Brighton

In a thrilling encounter, Pascal Gross put Brighton ahead in the 73rd minute, seemingly securing the victory for his side. However, Everton had other plans, as substitute Beto equalized in the dying moments of stoppage time, coinciding with his 27th birthday. The late goal ignited celebrations among Everton supporters, while manager David Moyes received a yellow card for his exuberant response on the pitch. After the match, Moyes shared his thoughts on the booking, expressing his discontent with the decision.

“Getting booked for that—imagine receiving a card for celebrating? Who wants to see managers penalized for showing joy? Had it been the 55th minute, I doubt I would have danced at all. It reflects a lack of understanding of what football represents and what it means to managers. It’s quite disheartening, really. If I had been a bit more daring, I might have attempted a knee slide, which would surely have warranted another yellow card! I might as well have gone all out!” Moyes remarked.

He further asserted that his team deserved the point, stating to BBC Sports, “Absolutely, we were good value for it. Few teams come here and win; we were one of the last to do so a year ago. It seemed like the game was slipping away from us, and I didn’t believe we deserved to be behind, as we conceded very few chances. Nevertheless, we persevered and managed to equalize.”

Reflecting on the game, Moyes noted, “I thought we played better in the second half. Brighton were the sharper side for the first 20-25 minutes, but we began to find our rhythm as the half progressed. I was relieved to enter halftime with the score as it was.”

Recognizing Beto’s contribution, he added, “He’s an excellent player to work with, always striving to improve. He has needed a boost in confidence, and the crowd’s reaction demonstrates their appreciation for him. He started scoring consistently around this time last year, so let’s hope he can replicate that form this season.”

This draw keeps Everton in contention for European qualification, placing them ninth in the table. Their upcoming fixtures include a trip to Fulham in the Premier League, followed by a match against Bournemouth at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
