Eyong has made an excellent start to the Liga season, having scored six goals and provided three assists in his first twelve league appearances. In his nine matches for Levante, he has netted five goals, including a consolation strike in a 4-1 defeat against league leaders Real Madrid in September. Real Madrid, currently at the top of La Liga after their first eleven matches, are reportedly interested in acquiring the 22-year-old in the January transfer window. Barcelona is also said to be considering him as they seek a replacement for aging striker Robert Lewandowski, while simultaneously exploring a high-profile move for Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez. However, Eyong’s aspirations may lead him elsewhere, as he expressed a dream to one day play for Chelsea. The club recently acquired forwards Joao Pedro and Liam Delap from Brighton and Ipswich, respectively, but Chelsea has a history of investing in promising young talent that they believe can develop into top players, potentially yielding significant returns. Eyong’s admiration for Chelsea is evident, particularly due to the influence of Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o during their respective tenures at Stamford Bridge. Drogba is revered as a club legend, having significantly contributed to the team’s success in the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup. Although Eto’o had a brief stint at Chelsea, Eyong aspires to emulate their successes. “Growing up, Chelsea was the English team I probably watched the most because of Drogba, and Eto’o was there for a year as well,” Eyong told GiveMeSport. “Chelsea has often signed incredible African players. There are many prestigious clubs in England, but as for [joining] Chelsea, why not? It would be a dream for me to play for Chelsea.” In addition to following Drogba and Eto’o, Eyong has also studied the playing styles of Harry Kane and Luis Suarez. Kane has been making headlines in the Bundesliga following his transfer to Bayern Munich, while Suarez remains a favorite among fans of Liverpool and Barcelona due to his impactful performances for both clubs. Having begun his career as a midfielder, Eyong believes he shares stylistic similarities with Kane. He stated, “I see myself resembling Kane in style. It’s essential to observe how other strikers operate. I’ve learned a lot from Kane, especially regarding one-on-one situations and off-the-ball runs. You can gain just as much insight from his movements when he is out of possession as you can from his goal-scoring efforts. “Like Kane, I possess significant power and passion and can effectively connect play from deeper positions. He’s skilled with both his head and feet, making him a complete player, which is my aspiration. While we may not be built exactly the same, we approach the game with a similar philosophy.” On the influence of Suarez, he added, “I also enjoy watching Luis Suarez, who has always been a clinical finisher. I observed a lot of him during his time at Liverpool. He was not only skillful but also direct and intelligent with his movement. Few players possess a footballing intellect as great as Suarez. The best strikers excel at improvisation, not just finishing.” Despite failing to add to his goal tally during Levante’s 3-1 defeat against Atletico Madrid on Saturday, Eyong is determined to enhance his impressive record in the upcoming match against rivals Valencia after the international break. Following Saturday’s loss in Madrid, Levante currently sits just above the relegation zone with nine points from the first twelve league games of the season.
