This summer, Eberechi Eze made headlines when he transferred from Crystal Palace to Arsenal for £67.5 million ($88 million). Fans had high hopes for the 27-year-old’s impact on Mikel Arteta’s offense. After displaying promising potential, Eze truly showcased his talent during Arsenal’s 4-1 victory over Tottenham on Sunday.

A lifelong Arsenal supporter, Eze expressed his elation following the match, stating, “That’s a good [feeling]. Enjoyable day, happy to help the team, and to win today is special. It feels special, man. I’m grateful again; this is what I pray for. I prayed for it today, a hat-trick, and I got it today so I’m grateful to God.”

Manager Mikel Arteta shared in the joy of the team’s performance, emphasizing the significance of the North London derby victory. He remarked to BBC’s Match of the Day, “It’s a very special day for us. We knew the importance of the match and what it means to our fans. To be able to give them that joy, it’s a beautiful day. We dominated every part of the game, created massive chances, and stayed patient. This squad has the belief and quality to deliver consistently.”

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has predicted that Eze could secure a starting position in next year’s World Cup. He suggested that Eze would be an ideal candidate for a number 10 role, despite facing competition from notable players such as Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer, and Morgan Rogers. Sherwood stated, “If you ask me who’s the most talented number 10 in England, I would say Eze. He’s quick, versatile, and has the vision to succeed in that role.”

When questioned about scoring against Tottenham, a club he nearly joined this summer, Eze sidestepped the inquiry. However, Sherwood commended his composure under pressure, noting, “Credit to the boy; he didn’t look fazed by the atmosphere. Big players rise to the occasion.”

Arteta was pleased with Eze’s contributions but felt he could have netted more than just three goals. He highlighted Eze’s ability to create “magic moments” that can disrupt opponents. Arteta noted, “To be fair, he could have scored four or five. He’s a big player who can unbalance a team. We have good momentum, but we recognize the challenges ahead. We must take each game as it comes and focus on our upcoming fixtures against Bayern Munich and Chelsea.”

Following their resounding win, Arsenal now faces a significant challenge against a formidable Bayern Munich side in the Champions League on Wednesday, before traveling to face second-placed Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.
