omidbasir- Eberechi Eze began his Arsenal career with great promise, highlighted by a hat-trick in the north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur. However, since that peak, the England international has faced difficulties establishing himself at the Emirates Stadium. His recent appearance against Brentford marked his first Premier League start since December 13, but he was substituted at halftime with the score still level.

While Noni Madueke scored to put Brentford ahead, Keane Lewis-Potter’s equalizer ensured Keith Andrews’ side earned a deserved point. Former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer expressed disappointment in Eze’s performance, suggesting he risks missing out on the England World Cup squad this summer.

Shearer stated, “Mikel Arteta has one or two issues to address. Eze’s performance against Brentford was somewhat surprising; he appeared lost during the match. His substitution at halftime led to an improvement for the team, allowing them to apply more pressure on Brentford and ultimately score. Yet, I believe Brentford deserved their point.

“It is remarkable to see someone who scored a hat-trick in such a significant match appear so out of sorts. When Eze joined Arsenal, he exuded confidence and seemed to fit seamlessly into the team. But his performance against Brentford suggested discomfort, leading to concerns about his selection for the England squad if he continues to be sidelined.

With Manchester City’s recent victory over Fulham narrowing the gap to Arsenal, Shearer still views the Gunners as strong contenders for their first league title since the 2003-04 season. He praised City’s performance, noting their intensity and solidity, which has increased pressure on Arsenal.

“It’s not common for teams to win the title easily, especially for Arsenal, who’ve not experienced it in a long time. City’s players are familiar with the demands of a title race, which adds to the challenge for Arsenal. Winning the Premier League often requires navigating tough periods without losing composure.

“I wouldn’t say there are significant cracks in Arsenal’s game just yet, though City’s form raises the possibility of a strong run. Brentford made it particularly challenging for Arsenal, as Keith Andrews has shaped them into a physically formidable team steeped in talent. They performed well against Newcastle and were unfortunate not to secure a win against Arsenal.

Both title challengers are set for FA Cup action this weekend, with Manchester City facing League Two club Salford City on Saturday, while Arsenal will host Wigan Athletic on Sunday, a team that famously won the trophy in 2013.
