FC Augsburg has officially announced the signing of Rodrigo Ribeiro on loan from Sporting CP.

The six-month loan agreement includes a €5 million purchase option. At just 20 years old, Ribeiro has recorded only one goal in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, which he achieved while on loan at AVS Futebol SAD during the 2024/25 season.

Despite not scoring for Sporting CP’s first team, Ribeiro found the net 16 times for the Sporting B squad. This marks his third loan spell, following a previous stint at Nottingham Forest in the 2023/24 Premier League season, where he struggled to secure significant playing time.

Ribeiro becomes Augsburg’s third addition during the ongoing January transfer window, joining former striker Michael Gregoritsch and defensive specialist Yannik Keitel.

“The path Rodrigo has taken at only 20 years of age is impressive,” stated FCA sporting director Benni Weber in a club announcement. “He brings technical quality, dynamism, and a goal-scoring threat, which expands our attacking options and increases competition for that position. That’s precisely what we need.”

Ribeiro expressed his enthusiasm for the move, saying, “The prospects I was shown in Augsburg convinced me immediately. I’m joining an ambitious club that trusts young players and gives them the chance to prove themselves.”
