Fernandez s Future at Chelsea Manager s Intentions and Contract NegotiationsFernandez s Future at Chelsea Manager s Intentions and Contract Negotiations

Earlier this month, reports emerged suggesting that Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez was contemplating his future at the club following the departure of head coach Enzo Maresca. The 25-year-old has attracted interest from major clubs such as Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain; however, new manager Liam Rosenior is determined to retain the Argentine international.

Last week, Rosenior addressed the speculation surrounding Fernandez, stating, “It means nothing to me. When you’re a world-class player, there’s always going to be speculation that you can’t control. He’s a Chelsea player, and he’s very important to me. I believe we will cultivate a strong and hopefully successful relationship in both the short term and the long term.”

In the 2025 season, Fernandez scored 11 goals and contributed eight assists, ranking first among his Chelsea teammates for chances created and successful passes—further emphasizing his significance to the team’s attacking dynamics. According to BBC Sport, Fernandez is among a group of Chelsea players seeking a new and improved contract. He is now represented by a new football agency that includes former PSG and Argentina player Javier Pastore, along with established agent Matias Toranzo. They have swiftly communicated their intentions to the club regarding a new deal. While Fernandez admires the allure of Spanish giants Real Madrid, he appears less inclined to join PSG. Chelsea, meanwhile, remains composed about ongoing contract negotiations and has expressed no intention of selling the Argentine.

In midweek, Chelsea secured a top-eight position in the league phase of this season’s Champions League with a thrilling 3-2 victory against Napoli. This win marked the first home defeat for Antonio Conte’s side since Lazio triumphed over them in a 1-0 match in December 2024. Following the match, Fernandez, who scored from the penalty spot, expressed his elation, stating, “It was a great match, and we deserved to win. I want to thank my teammates for today’s victory and their tremendous efforts in what is a very challenging stadium. It has been a long time since Napoli lost here, and I am extremely happy with the win and our qualification. I believe we are progressing positively. We are now in the last 16, and we can look forward to the draw. We have a very good squad with talented players and a great team, so we will approach the next steps with confidence.”

Chelsea, currently fifth in the Premier League, will face a rejuvenated West Ham at Stamford Bridge in their next league match on Saturday evening. Depending on the results, Chelsea could ascend to fourth place in the table; conversely, if the Hammers secure a victory, they could narrow the gap to 17th-placed Nottingham Forest to just two points. With many challenges still ahead, Chelsea aims for a strong finish to the season, leaving the long-term future of Fernandez uncertain.
