Gernot Trauner is unlikely to have a future at Feyenoord, prompting the Rotterdam club to seek an additional central defender. This potential acquisition could be quite significant.

Stefan de Vrij has once again emerged as a top candidate for Feyenoord. The Dutch international, who is currently not part of coach Ronald Koeman’s squad, has an expiring contract with Internazionale, making him available this summer at no transfer fee. However, the term “free” is relative as the player’s salary will still need to be negotiated.

Willem van Hanegem recently referred to De Vrij as “the best Dutch player” at Euro 2024, stating: “Reijnders is a composed player who will eventually find his way back, but he must be aware of how easily he was sacrificed. Stefan de Vrij is likely contemplating the same in Milan. Koeman continued to build his team after the Euros, but our standout player from that tournament was the only one he replaced. Timber is indeed a lesser defender, Jan Paul van Hecke often plays too recklessly, and Matthijs de Ligt has struggled throughout his career. While he is performing reasonably well at Manchester United now, it is unlikely that he will suddenly become significantly better than in recent years.”
