Feyenoord has encountered some difficulties as they suffered a defeat against NEC last Sunday, increasing their points deficit to league leaders PSV by six. However, there are positive signs within the squad, notably the emergence of Luciano Valente, who has received praise from FC Rijnmond and is being viewed as a new potential leader for the team.

Luciano Valente has stepped up as a candidate for the captaincy at Feyenoord after transferring from FC Groningen last summer. His development in Rotterdam has been commendable. Bart Nolles, a presenter at FC Rijnmond, suggested that Valente might be a suitable choice for captain. Former striker Geert den Ouden supports this notion, commenting, “There are currently three players who are not quite fulfilling the role of captain, which has been widely discussed. Perhaps Valente is indeed the true leader this team needs. I find this suggestion quite reasonable.”

In a recent decision by coach Robin van Persie, Quinten Timber was stripped of the captaincy, which was then given to newcomer Sem Steijn. However, Steijn has yet to meet expectations and appears to be struggling with the responsibilities that come with leading the team. Den Ouden expressed admiration for Valente’s willingness to speak out about the team’s focus following their loss, stating, “I think it’s commendable that someone like Valente, still a young player, has the courage to voice such concerns.”
