Feyenoord Faces Defensive Challenges Eyes Mats DeijlFeyenoord Faces Defensive Challenges Eyes Mats Deijl

Feyenoord is currently facing significant challenges, not only in terms of performance but also in player availability for various positions. A critical concern is the right-back position. Givairo Read is sidelined for an extended period, and Bart Nieuwkoop is struggling with fitness issues, leaving Jordan Lotomba as the only fit right-back. Consequently, there is a pressing need for reinforcement. According to FR12, Dennis te Kloese has recently turned his attention to Deventer in search of a solution.

The club is actively scouting for a right-back reinforcement, with a preference for an experienced player, as reported by Feyenoord media. One of the prominent options under consideration is Mats Deijl. The 28-year-old defender has become a key figure at De Adelaarshorst, where he has served as captain since Bas Kuipers’ departure. Deijl notably led his team to victory in the KNVB Cup during the 2024-2025 season.

In addition to scouting efforts, Feyenoord is also working behind the scenes on the sale of Quinten Timber. The midfielder is expected to be transferred for a fee ranging between ten and twelve million euros, although estimates may vary. According to SoccerNews journalist Mounir Boualin, the club might need to adjust their expectations to a figure between eight and ten million euros. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano suggests a possibility of a transfer fee as low as four and a half million. Part of the revenue from this sale could potentially be allocated towards acquiring a new right-back.
