omidbasir- On Thursday, Dutch club Feyenoord announced that they have finalized a deal to sign winger Sterling on a short-term contract until the end of the season. He will reunite with manager Robin van Persie in the Eredivisie. Reports indicate that Sterling also had the opportunity to remain in England, specifically with Tottenham Hotspur, who initiated discussions with him after Wilson Odobert was ruled out for the season due to an ACL injury.

However, the reports suggest that Sterling opted against a move to Spurs, citing their lack of stability, particularly following the recent dismissal of manager Thomas Frank. Tottenham is currently fighting to avoid relegation, sitting just five points above 18th-placed West Ham United. Van Persie played a crucial role in persuading Sterling to make the move to the Netherlands, and he took the time to consult with influential figures in the sport to ensure that his next step was a considered one after mutually terminating his contract with Chelsea.

Consequently, Sterling signed a limited agreement with Feyenoord, as the club expressed interest in a longer commitment, but he remained cautious about his future career prospects.

Expressing his enthusiasm for this new chapter, Sterling stated, “As a free agent, I’ve had, for the first time in a long time, the opportunity to control the next step in my career. I wanted to take my time to speak with clubs and their head coaches to better understand the role they envisioned for me and ensure that I can add real value in this next chapter.”

He added, “Having spoken in great detail with Robin, I’m confident that Feyenoord is a place I can be happy and establish myself as a valued member of the team. Playing abroad is a whole new challenge for me – and one I’m ready to embrace. Honestly, I’m just excited to get started.”

Feyenoord is set to face Go Ahead Eagles this weekend, where Sterling could make his debut for the club.
