omidbasir- On Sunday afternoon, Feyenoord secured a crucial victory against FC Utrecht, triumphing 1-0 in a match that lacked excitement. This win, coupled with Ajax’s draw against AZ, keeps Feyenoord firmly in second place in the league standings. However, NEC could surpass them with a win against FC Utrecht. Despite this, analyst Mikos Gouka believes Feyenoord, like Ajax, need not worry too much about NEC’s challenge.

In a recent episode of the Algemeen Dagblad’s football podcast, Gouka noted that Feyenoord may have capitalized on their opportunities against Utrecht. He remarked, “I felt Feyenoord was stronger before halftime, but in the end, one could argue that Utrecht, despite their poor performance, had the better chances. Based on that, a draw might have been a fair result, but Feyenoord held on to their 1-0 lead and didn’t concede much.”

Despite the close nature of the match, Gouka suggested that this victory could mark the beginning of a successful streak for Feyenoord. “This could be the start of a run of better results. In this phase, it’s all about accumulating points, as the Feyenoord players mentioned after the match. When looking around, you can see Ajax has fallen further behind, and clubs like Sparta are not closing the gap. That would have been the case had Feyenoord lost to Utrecht.”

In the race for second place, Feyenoord faces competition from Ajax; however, NEC currently has a slightly stronger position. Gouka expressed confidence that NEC will not pose a significant threat to either of the top Dutch clubs. “You can see that things have been going their way in recent weeks. They must maintain this form for another 12 matches. While it’s possible, one gets the impression things could also take a turn for the worse.”
