Feyenoord has faced a significant number of injuries throughout the season, which has been a major contributing factor to their disappointing results in recent months. Robin van Persie has openly expressed his intention to bolster his squad in multiple positions during the winter transfer window. The Rotterdam club is currently exploring the rental market for an additional central defender, according to Mounir Boualin, a transfer journalist from SoccerNews.

The injury list in Rotterdam-Zuid has taken its toll. Van Persie has struggled to field the same starting eleven consistently, let alone his preferred lineup. The defensive line is among the most pressing issues, as the team grapples with the long-term injuries of Thomas Beelen, Gernot Trauner, and Malcolm Jeng. Consequently, Anel Ahmedhodzic and Tsuyoshi Watanabe have emerged as the only viable options for Van Persie in central defense.

Despite earlier speculation linking Stefan de Vrij to the club, Boualin firmly states that this transfer will not occur. SoccerNews reported last week that the Dutch international is likely to earn a substantial salary in Saudi Arabia, with Al-Hilal allegedly extending a six-month contract offer that includes an option for a further year. Should he accept, de Vrij could earn €800,000 net per month. Additionally, clubs from Portugal and Turkey have also shown interest in De Vrij.
