Recently, various international player unions and FIFA convened in Rabat to address the health of professional footballers. One of the key conclusions was that players must have a minimum of 72 hours of rest between two matches. This could potentially require the Eredivisie to schedule matches on Monday evenings.

The FIFA and the unions have been in discussions for some time regarding the implementation of measures to prevent player overload. These measures are progressively taking shape, as reported by De Telegraaf following the meeting in Rabat. In recent years, an increasing number of professional footballers have openly expressed their concerns regarding the congested match calendar in football.
