A former international soccer player from England was apprehended at Stansted Airport on Sunday, under suspicion of attempting to rape a former partner.

ESPN has confirmed the identity of the individual, who is not named due to legal constraints.

Essex Police informed ESPN that the man has been granted bail until late February 2026, while investigations continue.

A spokesperson for the police stated, “A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and has been bailed to a date in late February 2026 while we continue our enquiries.”

The arrest occurred at a passport control checkpoint at Stansted, as initially reported by The Sun. The complaint is believed to have been lodged by the former partner several weeks prior.
