Frattesi s Future Uncertain Amid Newcastle s Midfield ConcernsFrattesi s Future Uncertain Amid Newcastle s Midfield Concerns

omidbasir- According to Sport Witness, Newcastle United expressed interest in signing 26-year-old Davide Frattesi during the summer transfer window; however, he ultimately remained with Inter Milan. With less than 200 minutes played in Serie A this season, reports from Tuttomercatoweb suggest that a departure from the Nerazzurri is increasingly likely. The Italian midfielder’s pathway to the first team is obstructed by players such as Petar Sucic and Piotr Zielinski, making a January exit ‘very likely.’ Although Inter rejected Newcastle’s summer approach, this interest could be revived in 2026.

In August, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe acknowledged the need for another midfielder, particularly following injuries to Joe Willock and Lewis Miley. He stated, “We want six [midfielders], and now we are down to four. That is an issue for us, and it is a position we are looking at.”

Despite a bustling transfer window, which included the saga surrounding Alexander Isak, Newcastle managed to secure Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa. However, it remains to be seen if this addition will sufficiently meet Howe’s midfield requirements with a significant portion of the season still ahead.

Howe also minimized the possibility of re-signing Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, who was sold to alleviate the Magpies’ profit and sustainability concerns. “Sentiment never comes into it; it is always about finance. We have not had any discussions regarding the January window. We’re too focused on the number of games we have. That will take priority for now,” he remarked. He added that Newcastle is unlikely to engage in high-stakes transfers, especially given the financial strategy in place to avoid destabilizing their fiscal situation.

Although Frattesi has not been a regular starter at Inter, he continues to represent Italy on the international stage. He featured in Italy’s recent 4-1 defeat to Norway, where they led for a significant part of the match. Following the game, Frattesi expressed mixed feelings, stating, “It was two games in one. In the first half, there was only one team on the pitch; in the second half, we showed that we are a bit fragile. After the first goal, we fell apart. The group stage is over, and we have to focus only on the March playoffs.”

Frattesi’s contract with Inter extends until 2028, and it remains uncertain if the club will consider offers for him in January. The winter window is traditionally challenging for transactions, as clubs often demand inflated prices for their players. Prior to any potential moves, Inter will face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, while Newcastle is set to play Marseille in France.
