Jeremie Frimpong has expressed his belief in fellow Liverpool teammate Florian Wirtz, asserting that the young midfielder will soon regain his best form at Anfield. Frimpong is confident that Wirtz can handle the pressures associated with his £116 million transfer fee.

Since joining Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, Wirtz has been under significant scrutiny, as he is regarded as one of Europe’s most promising talents. The 22-year-old recently celebrated his first goal for Liverpool in a 2-1 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers; however, he faced criticism again after a lackluster performance in the team’s 0-0 draw with Leeds United.

Frimpong, who made the move to Liverpool concurrently with Wirtz after their time together at Leverkusen, remains optimistic about Wirtz’s future contributions. “That’s my boy,” Frimpong remarked. “When I learned he was coming to Liverpool, I felt a sense of joy because we began our journeys at Leverkusen together and are now embarking on our Liverpool careers simultaneously.”

He continued, “I am well aware of Flo’s capabilities. I have mentioned in various interviews that without him, I wouldn’t have won a double with Leverkusen. We recognize his talent, and this is merely the beginning for him. There is so much more to come.

“Flo is the type of player who does not let external factors, such as his price tag, affect him. He simply enjoys playing football. Personally, I believe he manages pressure exceptionally well; he loves having the ball at his feet. For him, it’s about enjoyment rather than the financial implications. That £116 million price tag may seem daunting from the outside, but he is not concerned with that. He understands his worth and is eager to play.”

Frimpong’s own initiation into Liverpool has not been without challenges. The defender, who has also showcased versatility by playing on the wing, dealt with a hamstring injury on the season’s opening day and experienced a recurrence of the issue against Eintracht Frankfurt in October.

Now back to full fitness, the Netherlands international is eager to utilize his speed as a vital asset for Liverpool as they aim to ascend the Premier League standings. “I’ve been sidelined for an extended period, and I’m just looking forward to playing football again. Missing out on matches has been tough for me, especially since I typically don’t deal with injuries. Thankfully, my family has been supportive during this time,” he stated.

“I’m thrilled to be on the pitch again and contribute to my team. My style of play remains unchanged whether I’m positioned at right-back or right wing; I rely on my abilities and speed, and that flexibility doesn’t hinder me.”

Regarding his adjustment to life at Anfield, Frimpong shared, “The team has been incredibly welcoming. They embraced me from day one, which has made it easy to connect with everyone, especially Hugo [Ekitike]. There’s a great energy among us, and it’s truly enjoyable.”
