Future of Gastón Ávila in Flux Amid Transfer Speculations

There has been considerable speculation in South America regarding the future of Gastón Ávila. He was on the verge of a transfer to São Paulo, but communication with the Ajax defender suddenly ceased.

According to journalist Valentín Furlan from UOL Esporte, Ávila has become captivated by another offer from Rosario Central. The reporter stated: “Representatives of Gastón Ávila informed Tricolor that they are willing to resume discussions if negotiations with Rosario Central do not succeed. Tricolor had reached an agreement with the defender; however, an enticing proposal from the club that nurtured his career took precedence.”

Marc Overmars, the technical director of Royal Antwerp FC, expressed his surprise at the situation. He had initially sold Ávila to Ajax and shared with NOS: “I told my colleague that I wanted to remain somewhat detached from this. You handle the contact with the office, the processing, and so forth.” He sent Mislintat a brief message: “This must be it. It was the quickest deal ever. However, it was also challenging for me because I thought: ‘What are they bringing in?!’ You must sell something to the club you care about. In Ávila’s case, I felt he wasn’t a typical Ajax player.
