Gabriel Jesus Expresses Commitment to Arsenal Amid Injury StrugglesGabriel Jesus Expresses Commitment to Arsenal Amid Injury Struggles

Since joining Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022, Gabriel Jesus has faced a series of injury setbacks, missing over 70 matches, including a significant anterior cruciate ligament tear that sidelined him for most of the previous year. The 28-year-old expressed his joy at returning to the pitch in December but acknowledged the challenges he encountered during his recovery.

“In the first three months, I had many doubts, but then I focused on what God wants from me,” Jesus shared last month. “Everyone expected me to score, and naturally, I wanted to deliver. While I had some opportunities, I remain incredibly happy. Returning and having the touches I experienced tonight, along with the ability to move and maintain possession, is rewarding. It took 11 months of self-care, and although I felt apprehensive about returning, potentially with limitations, simply being back on the field with my teammates brings me immense satisfaction. I feel more than ready. I can confidently say God saved my life.”

Following his recent impressive performances, Jesus has expressed a desire to extend his contract, which has just under 18 months remaining.

Throughout his tenure with Arsenal, Jesus has made 107 appearances, netting 27 goals and providing 21 assists. This season, he has featured 11 times, contributing to two goals. With Arsenal currently leading the Premier League and performing admirably in the Champions League, Jesus is determined to pursue silverware this term.

“This is my fourth season at Arsenal, and unfortunately, I’ve only played about one-and-a-half to two seasons due to injuries,” he reflected. “This level of injury is unprecedented for me, but it’s been my experience here at Arsenal. My primary objective is to remain healthy until the end of the season. Additionally, I wish to extend my contract and remain at Arsenal, where I aim to win trophies, as I came here with a purpose.”

Arsenal supporters were eager about the acquisition of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP last summer for an initial fee of £55 million ($74 million), but the Swedish international has yet to meet expectations. Having scored an impressive 97 goals in 102 matches for his former club, Gyokeres has managed just eight goals in 26 appearances for Arsenal. Amid the scrutiny of Gyokeres’ performance, Jesus has come to his defense.

“Vik is an extraordinary player, capable of scoring at any moment,” Jesus commented. “I understand the challenges he’s facing now; I have been in that position as well, and it’s not easy. However, I have faith that everyone here, including the coach, staff, and my fellow players, will support him and instill confidence in him. He has already contributed significantly to our team, even if he hasn’t always been on the scoresheet. His movements and efforts have been instrumental in our pursuit of victory.”

Both Jesus and Gyokeres will be looking to play pivotal roles in Arsenal’s upcoming away match in the Champions League against Inter Milan on Tuesday evening, followed by a Premier League clash with Manchester United on Sunday.
