Gabriel Jesus has faced multiple setbacks due to knee injuries, hindering his ability to fully realize his potential as a striker. After assessing his condition, he anticipated a lengthy recovery period, which was later confirmed by scans revealing a severe ACL tear.

Following nearly a season-long battle for recovery, Jesus has now returned to full training, bringing renewed optimism to the north London club. Manager Mikel Arteta expressed his enthusiasm for the Brazilian’s comeback, viewing him as a key asset who can enhance Arsenal’s attacking options.

“I’m thrilled to have him back,” Arteta said. “He brings an extra dimension to the team, and I’m confident we will soon see him making a significant impact on the pitch. It’s all about taking it step by step in this new environment. He has been training independently up until now, and it will be interesting to see how he adapts alongside his competitive teammates. His energy is infectious, and it’s wonderful to have him back with us.”

Jesus’s return is particularly timely given the ongoing injury issues plaguing Arsenal’s attacking lineup. Just as Arteta hoped for stability in his forward options, summer signing Viktor Gyokeres, acquired for £60 million from Sporting CP, suffered a hamstring injury during the win against Burnley. Gyokeres is expected to be sidelined for approximately two weeks, missing the upcoming match against Sunderland, although the international break may provide some recovery time.

Addressing Gyokeres’s injury, Arteta expressed concern, noting, “He hasn’t had many muscular issues before, so when he felt something and had to leave the pitch, it raised alarms. It’s particularly worrying for an explosive player like him. We are investigating further to understand the extent of the injury and will provide updates as soon as we have more information.”

While Arteta concentrates on player fitness and performance, rumors regarding Jesus’s long-term future continue to circulate. Reports from Mail Online suggest that Arsenal may entertain offers for the forward, with Brazilian clubs Flamengo and Palmeiras reportedly interested in a potential return for him. Additionally, Everton is rumored to be considering a significant bid in January.

In response to these speculations, Jesus has swiftly dismissed any thoughts of leaving, stating in an interview with Placar, as reported by ESPN Brasil, “Every day, the [Arsenal] coach and the board express their eagerness for my return. I do not envision myself outside the club’s plans. I have a contract until 2027, and unless it’s renewed, I will remain here at least until then.”

Despite his commitment to Arsenal, Jesus acknowledged his sentimental ties to Palmeiras, the club where his professional career began. “Palmeiras’ interest will always be present, both from them and from me. However, there has been no formal approach. It’s a natural inclination for someone who rose through their youth system, moved to Europe, and wishes to return one day. Everyone at the club understands that. I’m a player, and while it’s difficult to convey, when I do feel the need to return to Brazil, my ultimate desire will always be Palmeiras.”

Financially, Arsenal is navigating a challenging landscape following a substantial summer expenditure of nearly £250 million ($332 million). The acquisitions of Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze have strained the club’s wage structure, prompting speculation about potential departures of high-earning players to balance their finances. The club has already offloaded Reiss Nelson, Jakub Kiwior, and Albert Sambi Lokonga, leaving the future of Jesus uncertain as the team assesses its roster.
