The AC Milan striker, Julián Giménez, is optimistic about Mexico’s chances of making a significant impact at the FIFA World Cup in 2026, which will be hosted on home soil. Following his absence from the Qatar 2022 tournament, he views this upcoming event as deeply personal.

“I believe we will make history,” Giménez stated in an interview with ESPN. “As I mentioned previously, I’m a big dreamer. I aspire to be a world champion with Mexico.”

For Giménez, belief transcends mere optimism; it is an essential foundation for success. He asserts that while dreaming is free, realizing those dreams necessitates collective commitment.

“Of course I can see it happening,” he remarked. “Belief is costless, as is dreaming. Now, we need to put that belief into action and share it with everyone who joins us, because together, 130 million Mexicans are formidable.”

The 24-year-old forward also discussed the prospect of forming a dynamic attacking partnership with Raúl Jiménez, which could prove to be one of Mexico’s most potent assets in the tournament.

“I think we are two strikers who have excelled in Europe, and I believe we can create a formidable partnership,” Giménez explained. “We are well-acquainted with each other, and whenever we play together, we perform at a high level.”

Beyond tactical compatibility, Giménez emphasized the chemistry and friendship he has developed with the Fulham striker during their time with the national team.

“He is a great friend,” Giménez noted. “Sharing experiences in the national team has strengthened our bond. We even communicate via WhatsApp sometimes. Honestly, I feel that when opponents see both of us on the field, it alters their reactions—defenses approach us differently.”

The 2026 World Cup also symbolizes unfinished business for Giménez, who was excluded from Mexico’s final squad for Qatar 2022 under then-coach Gerardo Martino, despite being on the verge of selection.

“That experience left a lasting impression on me,” he admitted. “I’ve dreamed of playing in a World Cup since childhood. Being so close last time and not making it has intensified my desire.”

The thought of the tournament often occupies his mind, keeping him awake at night.

“There are nights when I find myself thinking endlessly, and I can’t sleep,” Giménez shared. “This happens frequently when I contemplate the World Cup. I already envision myself there, in the opening match, with the crowd at the Estadio Azteca. That image is persistent in my mind because I just want to experience it already.”

Mexico recently secured a 1–0 victory over Panama in a friendly match featuring exclusively Liga MX players. This Sunday, they will face Bolivia as part of a preparation tour requested by manager Javier Aguirre, aimed at evaluating domestic talent and assessing Central and South American opponents.
