Girona and Osasuna Face Off as Season ProgressesGirona and Osasuna Face Off as Season Progresses

Girona, under the management of Míchel, has experienced a rollercoaster start to the season. The team is just one victory away from concluding the first half of the campaign with 21 points, a mark that would put them on track for survival in the top tier for the fourth consecutive year. A win would symbolize a “scraped pass,” as Míchel described it, particularly following their recent exit from the relegation zone.

In their upcoming match, Girona will face Osasuna, the lowest-performing team in away games this season, having managed just two draws in their nine matches outside of El Sadar.

Despite a promising start to the year, the atmosphere at Girona is not entirely positive. The club’s offices at Montilivi are actively seeking reinforcements while also working to finalize player departures, including goalkeeper Livakovic. Míchel will welcome back Stuani after a calf injury; however, he will still be without Ounahi, Van de Beek, Portu, and Abel Ruiz, who aggravated his quadriceps issue during the first training session of 2026. Additionally, Jhon Solís is expected to leave the club to open an extracommunity slot for Claudio Echeverri, who will not be making his LaLiga debut just yet.

Osasuna, after showing promising signs in their last match against Athletic, traveled yesterday with the goal of improving their performance in away games. Coach Alessio Lisci, with a nearly complete squad and the winter signing of Javi Galán—who may debut as a winger—aims to secure their first victory of the season away from Pamplona. “It would be a significant step forward to help us overcome this mental barrier,” asserted the red-and-white manager. A victory would also allow Osasuna to surpass the 20-point mark.

Ukrainian player Aimar has emerged as one of the league’s standout performers, having scored four goals this season. Míchel has also praised Aimar as a “special player” in the lead-up to the match, highlighting the importance of their individual brilliance for their respective teams.

Osasuna has performed better on the road than their statistics suggest, and they are due for their first win away. Meanwhile, Girona arrives at this crucial encounter with several key players sidelined.
