Grealish Faces Uncertain Future Amid Injury ConcernsGrealish Faces Uncertain Future Amid Injury Concerns

Jack Grealish played the full 90 minutes in Everton’s recent 1-0 victory against his former club, Aston Villa. Following the match, he reported to Everton’s training facility on Monday with what was initially presumed to be a calf issue. However, subsequent scans revealed that the injury was more serious than anticipated.

Everton manager David Moyes has not provided a specific timeline regarding Grealish’s recovery, but if surgery becomes necessary, it may effectively end his season and diminish any chances of him being recalled to the England squad for the 2026 World Cup.

The club is currently grappling with an injury crisis, and losing Grealish would be a significant setback, given his pivotal role in the team’s attack. When asked about the possibility of an operation, Moyes indicated that discussions are ongoing between the player and medical professionals regarding the optimal course of action.

Ahead of the upcoming match against Leeds on Monday night, Moyes expressed his disappointment regarding Grealish’s injury, stating, “That’s part of the discussion to be made with the surgeon. Obviously, we are not expecting good news, but I do not want to provide any specific dates at this moment. We are awaiting further assessments.”

Moyes continued, “It is unfortunate to lose him. He came in without complaints about his foot. Initially, we believed it was just a kick to the calf and that he would recover in a few days. However, upon further examination, we found that he has sustained a stress fracture. It is truly disappointing for him, especially since he has been performing well and has received tremendous support from Everton fans.”

Grealish’s absence would greatly impact the Toffees, as he has contributed significantly with six assists and two goals in the Premier League since joining the club.

This situation may compel Everton to explore the transfer market as the January window approaches its closing date. Moyes has previously indicated his intention to bring in new talent before the deadline on February 2, and there is a possibility that Grealish may return to Manchester City for rehabilitation.

“We are not currently focused on his future; our immediate concern is Jack and the disappointment surrounding his injury,” Moyes added. “We are in close communication with Manchester City, and we will evaluate how that relationship develops as we receive more information from the specialist. This situation will certainly influence our considerations for potential signings.”

On a more positive note for Everton, the club confirmed that James Garner has signed a long-term contract extension. The 24-year-old midfielder is a crucial asset for Moyes, and the new agreement, which extends until June 2030, represents a significant boost for the team.

In his statement regarding the contract, Garner expressed enthusiasm about his commitment to Everton: “I’m really excited to commit my future to Everton. I am incredibly grateful for the support and love I’ve received over the past three and a half years, but this is just the beginning. I have witnessed our recent progress, and I want to contribute to that growth and help elevate the club to where it rightfully belongs. With family members who are devoted Everton supporters, I understand the passion that comes with playing for such a prestigious club.”
