Grupo Pachuca Faces Fan Backlash Amid Recent CriticismGrupo Pachuca Faces Fan Backlash Amid Recent Criticism

Since July 2022, Grupo Pachuca has been the majority shareholder of Real Oviedo. Their management initially received commendations from fans, culminating in a promotion to the Primera division after a 24-year wait. However, recent events over the past three months have shifted this sentiment, placing them at the center of fan criticism. Protests erupted during the match against Celta last Saturday, prominently displaying a banner stating: ‘Pachuca: More football and less business.’

The response came from Jesús Martínez, president of Grupo Pachuca, during the inauguration of a new facility for their women’s teams in Hidalgo. “I must respect differing opinions, but I fundamentally disagree,” the Aztec leader stated. He continued, “There are calls for more football and less investment and business, but if any group has invested in the history of Real Oviedo, it is my esteemed Carlos Slim and Grupo Pachuca.” Looking ahead, he expressed optimism for the club’s future: “We have invested a considerable amount and will continue to do so because the rest of the fanbase remembers and is very appreciative.”

Additionally, there has been significant interest in whether players from Pachuca would join Oviedo on loan, and Martínez clarified, “No players from Pachuca will come to Oviedo; instead, we will bring one or even two reinforcements.”

Grupo Pachuca remains committed to the project’s success at the blue club, as evidenced by their recent rejection of a €12 million offer for Fede Viñas, who is owned by León and is currently on loan at Carlos Tartiere, ensuring he stays with the team.

Moreover, Nicolás Fonseca is set to arrive from León in the coming days to strengthen the midfield, while the departure of some players from that position is anticipated, with Kwasi Sibo being a likely candidate despite having started in Almada’s first match in charge. Also in the exit pipeline is Brandon Domingues, who will leave the team without having debuted in the Primera División.
