Guardiola Expresses Regret Over Confrontation After Newcastle DefeatGuardiola Expresses Regret Over Confrontation After Newcastle Defeat

Pep Guardiola has publicly acknowledged feeling “embarrassed and ashamed” following his altercation with a television cameraman after Manchester City’s defeat against Newcastle United last Saturday.

The incident occurred on the pitch at St James’ Park, where Guardiola appeared to have a tense confrontation with the cameraman. He was also seen engaging in animated discussions with referee Samuel Barrott and Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimarães during the match, which ended in a 2-1 loss for City.

At a news conference on Monday, when questioned about his remarks to the cameraman, Guardiola confirmed that he had apologized for his behavior. “I feel embarrassed, ashamed when I see it,” Guardiola stated. “I don’t like it. I apologized to the cameraman immediately after the incident. I am not perfect; I make significant mistakes. However, I will always defend my team and my club.”

In a somewhat tense news conference ahead of Bayer Leverkusen’s visit to the Etihad Stadium for a Champions League match on Tuesday, Guardiola also made a subtle remark concerning the agent of Claudio Echeverri. The young Argentinian player is currently on loan at Leverkusen from City but has faced limited playing time since his transfer to the Bundesliga.

“I always hope that players get ample playing time; that is my intention,” Guardiola remarked when discussing Echeverri’s situation. “We have immense respect for him as a football player. I am confident that his agent is fully aware of the circumstances.”

When asked about the possibility of Echeverri returning to City in January, Guardiola replied, “That is a question for his attentive agent.”
