Hakimi s Injury and Transfer Rumors PSG Eyes Munoz as ReplacementHakimi s Injury and Transfer Rumors PSG Eyes Munoz as Replacement

Achraf Hakimi was compelled to leave the field just before half-time after Bayern Munich’s forward, Diaz, lunged at the Moroccan defender. Initially booked with a yellow card by the on-field referee, the decision was escalated to a red card following a VAR review. Hakimi was visibly in distress and required assistance to exit the pitch, appearing emotional and fearful of a significant injury that could lead to an extended absence from play.

Subsequent medical examination confirmed that Hakimi had sustained a severe sprain to his left ankle, which included partial damage to both the femoral syndesmosis and deltoid ligaments. However, the reigning European champions later announced that surgery would not be necessary, although he is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks. Their official statement noted, “Achraf Hakimi has severely sprained his left ankle, which will render him unavailable for several weeks.”

Hakimi’s injury has raised concerns for the Morocco national team as they prepare for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, commencing on December 21 in Morocco. Morocco’s head coach, Walid Regragui, emphasized Hakimi’s significance to the squad, stating, “Achraf Hakimi is an irreplaceable player. He was a contender for the Ballon d’Or. For us Moroccans, he is the best player in the world.”

With Hakimi’s extended absence looming, Paris Saint-Germain is considering acquiring a replacement for their star full-back as the January transfer window approaches. Reports indicate that PSG officials are interested in signing Munoz, the right wing-back from Crystal Palace, viewing him as an ideal substitute for Hakimi.

Additionally, Spanish club Barcelona is reportedly monitoring Munoz’s situation, believing they could secure the Palace defender for approximately €30 million (£26 million/$34 million). Munoz has been a crucial figure in Oliver Glasner’s lineup, contributing significantly to the team’s FA Cup victory last season. Given that his contract runs until 2028, Crystal Palace is expected to demand a substantial fee for their key player.

Following a successful 2024-25 season, players from the Eagles squad are garnering interest from top clubs across Europe. While Munoz is on the radar of two elite clubs, midfield sensation Adam Wharton is also being linked to moves away from Selhurst Park, with Manchester United and Real Madrid vying for the English midfielder.

As reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano, Palace is preparing to offer Wharton a new contract soon to avoid losing their star player for a low transfer fee. In an interview with GiveMeSport, Romano stated, “They want to extend his contract. Palace has already engaged in several discussions with his representative regarding this intention. While it remains to be seen what unfolds, Wharton has demonstrated professionalism and commitment to the club amidst various transfer rumors. Currently, he is content at Palace, recognizing it as the ideal environment for his development. However, should a significant financial proposal arise in the summer, the situation could change. As of now, Palace intends to negotiate a new contract, but discussions are still in the early stages.”
