Hamburger SV Delays Daniel Peretz s Transfer to SouthamptonHamburger SV Delays Daniel Peretz s Transfer to Southampton

The Hamburger Abendblatt reports that Bundesliga club Hamburger SV is delaying the transfer of Israeli goalkeeper Daniel Peretz to Southampton.

Peretz is set to be recalled early from his loan at HSV by his parent club, Bayern Munich. The German giants intend to send Peretz on loan to the EFL Championship side once he returns. However, Hamburg is hesitating to officially terminate the loan agreement until they find a suitable replacement for him.

The local newspaper indicates that although Peretz, who is yet to make a Bundesliga appearance this season, serves as the primary backup to first-choice goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes, his absence is notable. Following Matheo Raab’s transfer to 1. FC Union Berlin this summer, Hamburg is now left with only inexperienced youth players in their goalkeeping roster from the fourth division.

Peretz did not attend the start of HSV’s training camp on Friday. However, head coach Merlin Polzin clarified to reporters that this absence was unrelated to his impending transfer, attributing it instead to a cancelled flight. Polzin confirmed that the club is engaged in “very intensive talks with the keeper” regarding his future.

The delay in the transfer process is also compounded by the recent unexpected resignation of Stefan Kuntz, HSV’s chief personnel officer. Kuntz, a highly regarded figure in German football administration, is leaving the club for personal reasons, which adds complexity to HSV’s January transfer strategy.

Peretz has openly expressed his desire to leave Hamburg, especially after facing challenges in the training camp, where he lost the competition for the starting position against Heuer Fernandes. Furthermore, with no viable path to succeed Manuel Neuer at Bayern Munich, a move to Southampton could be appealing for the 25-year-old.
