Harry Kane Aiming for Greatness Beyond the PitchHarry Kane Aiming for Greatness Beyond the Pitch

omidbasir- Harry Kane stands as the all-time leading scorer for the England national team, having netted 78 goals across his international career. With 112 caps to date, there are high expectations that he will make further history by surpassing Peter Shilton’s record of 125 appearances.

Kane’s remarkable achievements could place him among England’s football legends. However, the question remains: can he ascend to the top spot above iconic figures such as Bobby Moore, David Beckham, and Bobby Charlton? Former Tottenham star Teddy Sheringham is optimistic about Kane’s prospects, asserting that winning a World Cup would indeed position him as the greatest of all time (GOAT). Speaking with GOAL in collaboration with Mr. Q, Sheringham stated, “Yes, of course. If he is the England captain with the most goals and secures a title, it doesn’t get much better than that.”

At the age of 32, Kane faces pivotal decisions as he prepares to lead England’s pursuit of global glory in North America this summer. Recent reports indicate that his contract with Bayern Munich includes exit clauses that can be triggered during various transfer windows.

Speculation about a return to the Premier League continues, where he could potentially chase Alan Shearer’s all-time goals tally. However, it appears that winning silverware may currently take precedence for this ambitious forward over merely etching his name in the history books.

Reflecting on Kane’s near-term future, following his first major triumph as a Bundesliga title winner last season, Sheringham remarked, “You never know in football. Bayern Munich might opt for a younger prospect after the World Cup, leaving Harry Kane’s future uncertain. There’s a greater likelihood of him returning to the Premier League than moving to Saudi Arabia or elsewhere. He could also find opportunities in America. He remains an elite player, still at the peak of his career. The world is his oyster.”

When asked about the prospect of Kane taking on new challenges with La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, Sheringham responded, “At 32, Kane has faced injuries over the past four to five years, but he seems to have overcome them and is performing exceptionally well. The decision ultimately depends on various factors. [Robert] Lewandowski transitioned to Barcelona after his time at Bayern, and Kane could certainly make an impact for a few more years.”

Regarding Kane’s potential longevity in the game, reminiscent of legends like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Sheringham commented, “It’s possible if he desires to pursue that path. However, the physical toll becomes significant as players age, particularly beyond 33-34 years, especially in the Premier League. While the Bundesliga may be less grueling, it still demands a high level of fitness, and we will need to see how he performs during and after the World Cup.”

This season, Kane has scored 34 goals in 30 appearances for Bayern Munich, bringing his total to 119 goals from 126 games. Such consistent output would be welcomed by any club worldwide, and reports suggest that a contract extension could be on the horizon at the Allianz Arena, with his current deal set to expire in 2027.
