Harry Kane’s Future at Bayern Munich: Contract Talks Underway

During the DFL New Year’s reception, Eberl addressed inquiries about Kane’s future and confirmed to Sky Sport Germany, “We are talking to Harry.”

The Bundesliga champions are aiming to finalize a contract extension that would see Kane remain at the club until 2028 or 2029. Since transferring from Tottenham to Bayern in 2023, Kane has made a significant impact, netting 119 goals in 126 appearances and winning major silverware for the first time in his career last season when Bayern clinched the Bundesliga title. As Bayern stands eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table, ranks second in the Champions League standings, and has advanced to the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal, Kane is eager for further success this season.

In a statement regarding his future, Kane expressed his satisfaction with life in Bavaria. He remarked, “The move has been one of the best decisions of my life. Experiencing a new league and a team like Bayern Munich, along with the atmosphere of the German league, has been a great step in my career and has helped me improve as a player. I’m quite open to staying longer. Given our current form, I feel we are among the best teams in Europe. I am very happy here and have 18 months left on my contract, so I expect there will be discussions in the future.”

Kane has adapted to a slightly different role since his move from the Premier League, discussing his responsibilities within the Bundesliga giants. “When a team likes to press, I tend to drop back, sometimes even into defensive areas, to see if the center-backs are fully committed to following me all the way. That’s why you might see me in a No. 6 or 8 position on the half-turn,” he explained to The Times. “In the final third, we don’t really operate with a traditional No. 9. Instead, we almost deploy two No. 10s, with wingers who attack from inside and sometimes occupy the center-backs, creating uncertainty about whether to engage with me or to hold back. Each game presents different challenges, and when up against a low block, you must find space and movement within the box.”

Bayern Munich will return to action on Wednesday night in the Champions League, concluding their campaign with a match against PSV. The Bundesliga giants enter this fixture with automatic qualification to the knockout phase already secured, before shifting their attention back to the Bundesliga for a match against Hamburg on Saturday.
