Henk Spaan Praises Youri Regeer’s Performance at Ajax

Henk Spaan has expressed high praise for the recent performances of Youri Regeer at Ajax. The journalist regards the 22-year-old midfielder as functioning exceptionally well and even refers to him as ‘the greatest surprise’ of the first half of the season. Spaan suggests that there is no urgent need to recruit a new holding midfielder for the team at this moment.

In his column for Het Parool, Spaan lauds Regeer’s contributions to Ajax. He notes, “Regeer is the biggest surprise of the first part of this season. He may not possess the flair of a player like Valente, but he plays conservatively and is yet to develop a killer pass. While Valente excels in dribbling, Regeer has shown commendable consistency.”

Despite Spaan’s endorsement of Regeer, Ajax is reportedly still in search of a new defensive midfielder. Among potential candidates is Stije Resink from FC Groningen, though his immediate availability appears uncertain according to Voetbal International. The report states, “The Amsterdam native can be acquired for a reasonable fee from FC Groningen this summer and is highly regarded on Ajax’s wishlist, provided the new technical director and coach see potential in him, of course.”
