omidbasir- HULL, England — Hull City has announced that several arrests were made for discriminatory chanting during their FA Cup fourth round match against Chelsea, which ended in a 4-0 defeat for Hull.

In a public address made late in the first half, an announcement noted the presence of “discriminatory chanting inside the stadium” and indicated that the club was utilizing CCTV to gather evidence. The statement emphasized that anyone identified as participating in such criminal activity would be ejected and reported to the authorities.

Approximately an hour into the match, a follow-up announcement confirmed that “action has been taken this evening, including arrests.”

During the game, some home supporters were heard chanting the phrase “Chelsea rent boy.” It is important to note that in January 2022, the Crown Prosecution Service officially classified this term as an anti-gay slur, categorizing it as a hate crime. Individuals found using the term could face prosecution under hate crime legislation.

Following the match, Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior condemned any form of discriminatory language, stating, “Any discriminatory language in any form about anything is unacceptable, so I hope it gets dealt with. The fourth official mentioned something to me, but I was so focused on the game. I honestly don’t know what’s happening.”

Chelsea secured their victory with a hat trick from Pedro Neto and a goal from Brazilian winger Estêvão.
