A subsequent announcement in the second half confirmed that some supporters had indeed been detained.

The Crown Prosecution Service reaffirmed in 2022 that specific lyrics included in the chant, which referenced male sex workers, are classified as a homophobic slur, making fans who use it subject to prosecution.

In related news, Liverpool supporter Paul Boardman was banned from entering Wembley Stadium after being overheard singing the chant at a nearby railway station. He pled guilty to using threatening language and was subsequently fined £500.
