Inter Miami CF has positioned itself as a serious contender for Germán Berterame, the forward from Monterrey and the Mexican national team. Reports from ESPN and TUDN suggest that the MLS club is willing to activate Berterame’s $15 million release clause. While an agreement has yet to be finalized, both teams have confirmed that discussions are actively taking place.

José Antonio Noriega, sporting director for Rayados, has acknowledged the interest from Inter Miami, describing the proposal as appealing to all parties involved.

“I can confirm that there has been an approach from Inter Miami and that their proposal is attractive to Berterame,” Noriega stated. “It interests Germán, and it could be beneficial for us as well. If we determine that the offer is compelling and if Germán departs, we are already working on strategies to replace him.”

Jorge Mas, co-owner of Inter Miami, also validated the reports, underscoring the club’s ambition to develop a high-caliber squad.

“First and foremost, Germán Berterame is an exceptional player,” Mas remarked. “We are focused on assembling a great team. I can confirm there is an offer from Inter Miami for Germán Berterame, and we will see how things unfold in the next 24 to 36 hours. Our goal is to equip Javier Mascherano with the resources necessary to implement his tactical vision.”

Berterame’s potential departure could be underscored by a standout performance, as he scored during Monterrey’s 5–1 victory over Mazatlán FC, which may have been his last appearance in Liga MX with Rayados. Reports suggest that the league’s break until January 30 could expedite the timing of his transfer.

Monterrey’s head coach, Domenec Torrent, acknowledged the ongoing speculation but emphasized that the striker would not be let go without significant compensation.

“Berterame receives offers every year. This is managed by the board, and if he were to leave, it would require a substantial financial return to enable us to sign a replacement,” Torrent commented.

“The interested team knows that Rayados will not make it easy. He has a price and specific clauses. I’m pleased with his performance, he’s dedicated, and he scored today. My focus remains on improving the team.”

At 26 years old, Berterame has been one of the most reliable scorers in Liga MX, amassing 67 goals and 15 assists in 152 appearances for Monterrey since joining in 2022. His impressive performances have earned him a spot on the Mexican national team after successfully completing his naturalization process, despite previously representing Argentina at the youth level.

If the deal is finalized, Berterame would join Inter Miami in MLS, potentially becoming part of a star-studded lineup featuring Lionel Messi, while also positioning himself for a crucial role with Mexico ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
