Numerous reports from both North and South America indicate that Inter Miami is poised to activate the $15 million (£11 million) release clause in German Berterame’s contract. Discussions surrounding this potential move are currently in progress.

Jose Antonio Noriega, the sporting director for Monterrey, has confirmed the interest from Miami, describing the proposal as attractive for all parties. He stated, “I can tell you that there has been an approach and an intriguing proposal for Berterame.

“It interests German, and it could be beneficial for us. If we determine that the offer is appealing enough and German departs, we will make every effort, and we are already working on finding a suitable replacement.”

Jorge Mas, co-owner of the Herons, has also acknowledged the rumors, emphasizing the club’s desire to enhance their roster around eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi. He remarked, “Firstly, German Berterame is a remarkable talent. We are committed to building a strong squad.

“I can confirm that we have made an offer for him, and we will see how this unfolds in the next 24 to 36 hours… Our goal is to equip Javier Mascherano with the necessary tools to execute his tactical vision.”

With Liga MX currently on a winter break until January 30, the timing of Inter Miami’s approach is perceived as ideal. Monterrey’s head coach, Domenec Torrent, acknowledged the interest in one of his key players while also clarifying that a deal is not guaranteed.

He commented, “Berterame receives offers every year. This is a matter for the board to handle. If he leaves, they must provide a substantial fee to facilitate signing another player. The interested team should be aware that Rayados won’t make it easy… He has a valuation and conditions in his contract. I am pleased with his commitment, and I am focused on enhancing the team’s performance.”

Several influential figures in Mexican football have advised Berterame to reconsider any move to the United States, especially in a World Cup year. Former national team player Paul Aguilar expressed his views on La Ultima Palabra on Fox Sports, stating, “If I were in his position, I would remain at Rayados and explore opportunities after the World Cup. In my opinion, moving to MLS is a step backward, even though the league has made improvements.”

Aguilar contends that Liga MX remains a more competitive environment than MLS, and staying in Mexico would provide Berterame with the best chance of securing a spot in Javier Aguirre’s World Cup squad.

Berterame has refrained from discussing his future publicly, stating to reporters who inquired about a potential move, “They won’t let me talk.”

Despite receiving suggestions to reconsider his options, the prevailing expectation is that a transfer to Inter Miami will materialize in the near future. The Herons are optimistic about securing Berterame’s services.

The MLS Cup champions have recently seen former Barcelona stars Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba retire, while veteran Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez has committed to a new one-year deal. Additionally, they have strengthened their left-back and goalkeeping positions, while Messi has quelled any speculation regarding his future by signing a contract extension through 2028.
