Inter Miami has reportedly reached an agreement to sign Mexican international forward Germán Berterame from CF Monterrey, as confirmed by The Athletic. The deal is valued at around $15 million, positioning Berterame among the ten most expensive signings in Major League Soccer (MLS) history, pending finalization.

Prior to securing Berterame, Inter Miami explored various high-profile attacking options. One significant endeavor included a $13 million bid for LAFC star Denis Bouanga. However, LAFC promptly rejected this offer, stating unequivocally that the Gabonese forward is not available for transfer, as he is under contract until 2027, with a club option for 2028. Reports indicate that Bouanga is also seeking an extension of his current contract.

Bouanga is considered one of MLS’s top attackers, having scored a minimum of 20 regular-season goals in each of the past three seasons. With LAFC unwilling to negotiate, Inter Miami redirected its attention to Liga MX for potential acquisitions.

At 27 years old, Berterame has been a pivotal player for Monterrey since joining the club in 2022. He has netted 68 goals and provided 15 assists for Rayados, including an impressive 2025 season during which he scored 27 goals across all competitions, along with three goals in the FIFA Club World Cup. His strong performance has continued into the Clausura 2026, where he has already scored twice in Monterrey’s opening three matches.

This signing signals a broader transition for Inter Miami as the team moves beyond its initial phase with Lionel Messi, adapting to a new era. The retirements of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba have opened two Designated Player slots, one of which was utilized to make Rodrigo De Paul’s loan permanent in a deal valued at approximately $17 million. Berterame is anticipated to fill the third Designated Player spot.

Miami’s winter acquisitions have also featured MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Dayne St. Clair, winger Tadeo Allende on a permanent deal, Brazilian center back Micael on loan, midfielder David Ayala via trade, and free-agent signings Sergio Reguilón and Facundo Mura. These moves underscore the club’s commitment to remaining competitive across all fronts.
