Ríos Novo has successfully transitioned from a loan spell to a permanent contract after playing a pivotal role in Inter Miami’s historic 2025 season, culminating in their first MLS Cup victory. The goalkeeper was instrumental throughout the postseason, starting every match and achieving two clean sheets in critical games. Over the course of the year, he made 19 appearances across all competitions and concluded the season with five shutouts. Novo is anticipated to serve as a backup to the club’s latest acquisition, Dayne St. Clair, who was named the 2025 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.

Meanwhile, 29-year-old goalkeeper Barraza joins Inter Miami following a season with D.C. United, where he made 24 appearances and secured four clean sheets. His extensive experience in MLS, the USL Championship, and MLS NEXT Pro enhances the team’s depth, complemented by a winning background that includes an MLS Cup victory in 2021 and a Campeones Cup title in 2022.

Although an official announcement has yet to be released, reports indicate that the decision regarding these player movements has been finalized and will be disclosed in the near future. Veteran goalkeeper Óscar Ustari, 39, has not participated in recent training sessions in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and has been omitted from Javier Mascherano’s squad for the upcoming friendly match against Alianza Lima in Peru.

In a related move, CF Montréal has acquired Argentine center back Tomás Avilés on loan from Inter Miami. This agreement includes a purchase option, providing Montréal with flexibility while investing in a promising young defender.

This transaction meets the needs of both clubs effectively. Montréal welcomes the 21-year-old defender, who entered MLS with high expectations due to his significant potential, while Avilés benefits from a new environment that offers a more defined opportunity for consistent playing time. For Inter Miami, his departure addresses a roster imbalance, allowing for the necessary movement of one of the club’s U-22 Initiative players this winter.
