Porthmadog currently holds the second position in the Ardal North West League, standing three places and 13 points ahead of Trearddur Bay.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault following an incident that occurred during a match in Wales’ third tier on Saturday. North Wales Police confirmed that a 35-year-old individual is in custody in relation to the game between the amateur teams Trearddur Bay and Porthmadog FC that took place on January 17.

Initially, Trearddur Bay announced on Sunday that Tom Taylor had been suspended after video footage surfaced, seemingly showing him elbowing a Porthmadog FC player in the face. However, after an emergency general meeting of the club’s committee, they later disclosed that Taylor had been released from the team.

The footage of the incident, which took place at Y Traeth (The Beach) stadium in Gwynedd, has been widely shared across social media platforms. In response, North Wales Police stated that they are aware of the video and are conducting inquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. They confirmed that the arrested individual remains in custody, urging the public to refrain from speculation while the investigation is ongoing.

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has also acknowledged the situation, indicating that they are reviewing the incident, as tier-three matches fall under their jurisdiction. A statement from the FAW read, “The FAW is aware of the incident and will be reviewing it.”

Match records indicate that referee Richard Gwyn Edwards did not issue any red cards during the match, which ended with Porthmadog winning 3-2.

In their statement regarding the situation, Trearddur Bay Football Club expressed regret for the incident, emphasizing that they do not condone violence in any form. They extended sincere apologies to the affected Porthmadog player, match officials, supporters, and the broader football community. The club committed to fully cooperating with any external investigations or disciplinary actions, refraining from further comments until the matters are resolved.

Porthmadog FC issued a statement emphasizing their primary concern for the well-being of their player, Danny Brookwell, who sustained a concussion and required treatment before leaving the field. The club reported that Danny is now recovering at home.
